Canada’s World Cup opened with dance.
On June 12, 2026, Canada opened its FIFA World Cup at BMO Field in Toronto. Alex Francoeur was the Head Choreographer of the Opening Ceremony, held before Canada’s first match against Bosnia and Herzegovina.
He led 125 dancers in front of 45,000 spectators and a worldwide television audience, in a ceremony that also featured performances by Michael Bublé, Alessia Cara, Alanis Morissette, Jessie Reyez, Elyanna, William Prince, Nora Fatehi, Sanjoy and Vegedream.
For Alex, it was the project of a lifetime: a chance to show the whole world the talent we have in Canada.
